Jan Mathys Cornelissen (1811 – 1874)<\/h3>\n

Au commencement<\/h2>\n

L’histoire de notre brasserie remonte \u00e0 la premi\u00e8re moiti\u00e9 du XIXe si\u00e8cle. Jan Mathys Cornelissen brassait de la bi\u00e8re \u00e0 Gerdingen, \u00e0 deux pas d’Opitter. Il \u00e9tait mari\u00e9 avec Anna Maria Cornelissen et a transmis les secrets de ce noble m\u00e9tier \u00e0 son fils Joseph (Jef) Cornelissen, qui a ensuite fond\u00e9 la brasserie Cornelissen. Jan Mathys Cornelissen a \u00e9t\u00e9 le premier de six g\u00e9n\u00e9rations successives de Cornelissen \u00e0 porter fi\u00e8rement les initiales \u00ab JC \u00bb.<\/p>\n

Joseph Cornelissen (1859 – 1950)<\/h3>\n

La Grande Guerre<\/h2>\n

L’ambition de Jef lui vaut d’occuper la fonction de bourgmestre d’Opitter. Mais il conna\u00eet aussi des revers. La brasserie est confront\u00e9e \u00e0 des probl\u00e8mes commerciaux, et son \u00e9pouse d\u00e9c\u00e8de en donnant naissance \u00e0 leur onzi\u00e8me enfant en 1899. Au d\u00e9but de la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale, des nuages sombres s’abattent \u00e0 nouveau sur lui. Les mati\u00e8res premi\u00e8res se font rares. Comble d’infortune, Jef et ses deux fils Jaak et Jan sont arr\u00eat\u00e9s en f\u00e9vrier 1918 par les forces d’occupation pour espionnage (\u00ab Espionnage et transmission par c\u00e2ble<\/i> \u00bb). Jef est condamn\u00e9 \u00e0 mort, mais sa peine est heureusement encore commu\u00e9e en travaux forc\u00e9s \u00e0 vie. Avec la fin de la guerre, Jef \u00e9chappera aussi \u00e0 ce ch\u00e2timent.<\/p>\n

Troisi\u00e8me g\u00e9n\u00e9ration
Jaak Cornelissen (1890 – 1962)<\/h3>\n

L’entrepreneur de la bi\u00e8re<\/h2>\n

Jaak Cornelissen, fils de Jef, prend les r\u00eanes de la brasserie et caresse des projets d’envergure en tant qu’entrepreneur. Vers 1936, une nouvelle brasserie ax\u00e9e sur les bi\u00e8res \u00e0 fermentation basse est construite \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 du b\u00e2timent existant. C’est l\u00e0 qu’est brass\u00e9e la pils Pax \u00e0 partir de 1937. Jaak anime \u00e9galement la vie de la brasserie, au sens figur\u00e9, et devient \u00e0 partir de 1952, et ce, pendant plusieurs ann\u00e9es, le populaire bourgmestre d\u2019Opitter. Les nombreuses associations qui frappent \u00e0 sa porte sont toujours entendues par Jaak le brasseur.<\/p>\n

Jan Cornelissen (1924 – 1979)<\/h3>\n

Seconde Guerre mondiale<\/h2>\n

Jan Cornelissen, qui a aid\u00e9 leur p\u00e8re Jaak pendant de nombreuses ann\u00e9es, perp\u00e9tue alors la tradition familiale de la brasserie. Malgr\u00e9 son jeune \u00e2ge (16 ans), il s’occupe de l’aspect commercial. Son fr\u00e8re Leo rejoint \u00e9galement l’affaire et prend en charge l’administration. Ensemble, les fr\u00e8res franchissent \u00e9galement les premiers pas \u00e0 l’exportation de la brasserie, avec leur Kronenbier destin\u00e9e au march\u00e9 allemand.<\/p>\n

Josephus Cornelissen (1950)<\/h3>\n

Le virus du brassage<\/h2>\n

\u00c0 sa mort en 1979, Jan laisse dix enfants. Son fr\u00e8re est rest\u00e9 c\u00e9libataire. Finalement, c’est Jef Cornelissen, le fils a\u00een\u00e9 de Jan, qui reprend la brasserie au terme de ses \u00e9tudes \u00e0 l’\u00e9cole de la brasserie de Gand. Tout comme son grand-p\u00e8re Jaak, Jef est contamin\u00e9 par le virus du brassage. Sous ses ordres, on investit dans des machines modernes, de nouvelles techniques et de nouveaux b\u00e2timents. En m\u00eame temps, Jef veille au respect des valeurs familiales et des traditions brassicoles artisanales qui ont assur\u00e9 l’essor de la brasserie (toujours d\u00e9nomm\u00e9e \u00ab Sint-Jozef \u00bb \u00e0 l’\u00e9poque).<\/p>\n

Fid\u00e8le \u00e0 la tradition, Jef Jr., fils de Jef Cornelissen, rejoint l’entreprise familiale apr\u00e8s ses \u00e9tudes. Depuis 2014, Jef Jr. continue fi\u00e8rement dans la lign\u00e9e des JC. Les projets d\u2019avenir ambitieux de Jef reposent sur les valeurs familiales, la qualit\u00e9, l\u2019authenticit\u00e9 et l\u2019exp\u00e9rience gustative. Il est \u00e9vident que la brasserie fonctionnera d\u00e9sormais \u00e0 l’\u00e9chelle mondiale et que Jef devra exercer son flair sur un march\u00e9 d’exportation en pleine expansion dans d’autres parties du monde. Entre-temps, l’ancien nom \u00ab Sint-Jozef \u00bb a \u00e9t\u00e9 remplac\u00e9 par le nom de famille : \u00ab Brasserie Cornelissen \u00bb. L’avenir de l’entreprise est \u00e9galement assur\u00e9 : gr\u00e2ce aux enfants Jacob et Julie, la septi\u00e8me g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de Cornelissen \u2013 qui porte fi\u00e8rement les initiales JC \u2013 s’inscrit d\u00e9sormais dans une riche histoire familiale.<\/p>\n
